About this deal

as a note, if you already own a Framemeister, use it and enjoy it! My advice is simply for people looking to buy a scaler now, as it’s extremely expensive. Xbox2Wii Pro (with SPDIF): https://classicgamestore.ch/xbox2wii-component-adapter?sPartner=RetroRGB The RetroTINK line of devices that range from affordable linedoubleing (480p) solutions, to fully featured scalers with CRT mask emulation and high resolution output. All are “plug and play” solutions that requires no tweaking – Just plug them in and they work! My favorite Xbox HDMI adapter so far has been the Xbox2HDMI from Electron Shepard. It’s small, well-built and performs perfectly in all resolutions: https://retrorgb.link/xbox2hdmi

If your goal is to connect your original Xbox to any HDMI target, there’s a few choices available that are essentially a component video cable with an analog to digital converter built right in. They vary greatly in quality though, so make sure you’re careful with your choice: WARNING: At this time, I recommend staying away from any cheap cable that offering “1080p scaling”, or in fact scaling of any kind. These solutions are most likely using a scaler chip designed for TV signals that will add a significant amount of lag. Unless there’s a specific brand that’s been tested with actual lag testing tools, it’s best to stay away from those options.Extron has more nice goodies. Searching locally (Marktplaats) for one of those VSCs showed up the Extron IN1508 Scaling Presentation Switcher. Total overkill for the purposes described here, but it accepts DVI-D (=HDMI video!) and can output 576p RGB. And it's cheaper than buying a VSC 500 in the US and getting it shipped across the pond, plus needing a separate HDMI-VGA adapter. All you need is a passive HDMI->single link DVI cable or connector adapter. Heat and moisture can harm the adapter and impact how well it works. Keep the adapter away from humid areas like bathrooms and heat sources like radiators. Third, treat the adapter gently. Concerning the glitch and OSD: I have found the converter is completely stable when used with both my Master 128s. However, I've only just received a Model B and I do get the glitches and OSD display with that. I noticed that the RGB sync output showed a significant overshoot on the Model B but not on the Masters. See below. At the moment, the easiest way to play classic consoles on flat-screen TV’s is with the RAD2x cables. If you already own a lot of consoles and want an easy solution, it could be more cost effective to get a RetroTINK2x and use the cables you own. Lastly, the OSSC is a bit of work to set up, but will provide the sharpest picture with the most available options possible.

XOVP is a an open source design that allows people to make their own high quality plug and play solution for the original Xbox. There’s only SPDIF audio and you’ll still need shielded component video cables, but it’s awesome that there’s an open source solution out there. Alternatively, the Open Source Scan Converter (OSSC) will accept all resolutions from the Xbox and convert them to HDMI. First, it has an automatic low-pass filter that’ll clean up some analog noise from all resolutions. Next, it’ll deinterlace 480i to a zero lag 480p signal, pass through 720p and either passthrough or double 480p – Please note that not all displays will be compatible with the doubled 960p signal Most contemporary electronics, including DVD players and game consoles, now have HDMI output as standard. SultanMehmet61 wrote on 2020-08-05, 16:07: Sorry for joining in late to this topic. @Digger. Have you perhaps made any progress in finding something for connecting HD sign […] Other companies manufactured component video cables for the original Xbox, but the quality varied greatly! Some like the Monster Cables were known to be well shielded and provided a good signal, but most were unshielded, poor solutions. Also, all of the new options available we’ve tested showed both audio and video interference. Until we find a manufacturer that’s consistently selling high quality cables, I can only recommend either buying a used Monster cable, or just buying a cheap one and hoping for the best:

What to buy

The original Xbox only offered analog outputs, but can display high definition resolutions. As long as you use the correct cable, you can get excellent performance from basic plug-and-play solutions. Here’s a video that explains the basics, with a full written description below:

Even so, the upscale can only do so much. What it does is essentially blow up the smaller resolution to fill the screen on your TV. If you don’t use a converter with a resolution upscale feature, the image will be in letter-box mode. Glad the info was useful. As an addendum to this I've just bought a spare Model B. It showed exactly the same sync problem with the Elephas converter. Having found from my first B that it wasn't particularly bothered by the shape of the sync pulses I headed straight for crystal X1 (16MHz) and replaced it. That changed the symptoms significantly; rather than it dropping out of sync every few seconds there were constant sync problems for 30 seconds after which the sync completely stabilised until the next time the machine was powered on (after which the same thing happened). IME, modern televisions do not support 15kHz video on the VGA input, typically complaining that the signal is out of range even though the same signal is acceptable over other inputs. This won't affect you on the Amiga models you list, but is a heads-up for any A1200/A4000 users who are reading this answer and were hoping to use a modern TV as a multisync monitor. The YUV input may be a solution since it often supports both SD and HD video, but I have yet to explore this possibility. FirebrandX’s custom profiles (a must-have for all FM users): http://www.firebrandx.com/framemeisterprofiles.htmlHave I been looking in the wrong places? Perhaps such a device does actually exist somewhere after all?
