About this deal

The Fisherman's Friends sequel film will continue following the now highly successful sea shanty crew as they handle their new-found fame. The film will tell the story of the release of their second album and their debut on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival. And while I know the original band ended up at the Pyramid Stage in Glastonbury in 2011, they attempt to recreate this here with long shots of the band on stage, and bad CGI adding the cast’s faces to the screens by the side. Any close-up shots of the band, only show a handful of audience members. Okay, so it’s not going to be the done thing to take up time on a busy weekend to shoot one scene from a film at the REAL Glastonbury, as that could take up the entire afternoon, but it still adds to the feel of this whole production that it’s rather half-assed.

However, accompanying the singing is a plot which has surface-level detail at best. They’re about to put out a second album, which Universal Music’s Leah Jordan ( Jade Anouka) is trying to help promote, while boss Jez Chandra ( Ramon Tikaram) is indifferent about them, during which Jim’s depression-led drinking doesn’t help matters and might just derail the whole project. FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS: ONE AND ALL charts the next instalment of the Fisherman’s Friends amazing and uplifting true‐story. Following the unexpected success of their debut album “No Hopers, Jokers and Rogues” we rejoin the world’s oldest ‘buoy band’ a year later struggling to navigate the pressures, pitfalls and temptations of their newfound fame. FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS: ONE AND ALL follows the celebrated shanty singers through the highs and lows as lifelong friendships are put to the test and they battle the dreaded ‘curse of the second album’. If you don’t already own the first film then there’s a Fisherman’s Friends 1 & 2 boxset also coming out on the same day.FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS: ONE AND ALL is released in cinemas nationwide by Entertainment Film Distributors on 2 nd September 2022. The Fisherman’s Friends in the first movie, directed by Chris Foggin, are fictional characters and the storyline plays fast and loose with the true facts of the band's rise to fame. London-based music executive Danny (Daniel Mays) heads to Cornwall on a boozy stag weekend with his boss Troy (Noel Clarke), colleague Driss (Vahid Gold) and boorish groom-to-be Henry (Christian Brassington). In April 2021, it was revealed that filming had begun on a sequel to the 2019 film Fisherman's Friends. It had been scheduled to shoot in summer 2020, but was forced to delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On Friday 2nd September, FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS: ONE AND ALL, the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 2019 uplifting comedy hit, sails into cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

Fisherman’s Friends One and All releases on 7 November 2022 in the UK. Fisherman’s Friends 1 & 2 Boxset – Blu-ray & DVD Inspired by the story of Fisherman’s Friends, who rose to fame performing on the harbour in their native Port Isaac in Cornwall, the band are widely credited with starting the revival of interest in shanty-style choral singing, a pop-culture phenomenon in recent years.James Purefoy reprises the role of Jim, with other returning cast members including Maggie Steed, Dave Johns, Sam Swainsbury, Jade Anouka and David Hayman. New faces in Port Isaac include Richard Harrington as the new band member Morgan, Ramon Tikaram, Joshua McGuire and introducing Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May, in her debut acting role.

Overall, Fisherman’s Friends 2: One and All is too long, and with at least one or two unnecessary subplots that could easily be trimmed out – for example, one being where Jim’s mum has had an accident and is in need of assistance, and he now thinks that since his Dad has passed away, his Mum might also. Fisherman’s Friends 2: Fish Harder… sorry, Fisherman’s Friends 2: One and All, which feels like rather a mouthful and which doesn’t quite scan, but on watching this overlong film, I understood it’s a Cornish motto, and basically the same as The Three Musketeers’ “One for all and all for one”. Also, there’s a very brief close-up on a boat labelled the Port Isaac Shuttle Service, the initials in capitals to highlight “PISS”. According to Latitude 50, there is a service by that name, but given that it’s for getting about the village, it sounds more like a road-based one rather than sea. It all builds to that performance at Glastonbury, the one element of the sequel that hasn't been fictionalised. Due to Covid, the sequel never filmed at the iconic music festival and you can clearly tell. (It's almost part of the charm that their performance is intercut with clear generic crowd shots.)There's also the inevitable battle with the record company over releasing their second album, leading to another impromptu public performance. Yes, it feels all very familiar as it repeats a lot of what made the first movie work, but it's surely what fans of the first movie would want – the "comfort blanket" as Purefoy put it.

This is no downbeat, kitchen sink drama though. The Fisherman's Friends get up to plenty of japes due to their newfound fame, such as Leadville (Dave Johns) struggling with political correctness. The film about the real-life Cornish sea shanty group The Fisherman's Friends is set to return to the big screen in 2022. Richard Harrington, Ramon Tikaram and Joshua Maguire will join the cast, as well as singer-songwriter Imelda May, who is making her acting debut. The British comedy drama stars James Purefoy, Imelda May, David Hayman, Dave Johns, Jade Anouka, Ramon Tikaram, Fiona Button, Sam Swainsbury, Richard Harrington and Maggie Steed.

However, I quite enjoyed the ‘media training’ session led by Petra ( Fiona Button), where the politically incorrect Leadville is shown the error of his ways, even if the entire group experience comes across like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The Fisherman's Friends sequel finally has a release date. The first film, which followed a group of shanty singers in Port Isaac, starring Daniel Mays, Tuppence Middleton and James Purefoy, was released in 2019.
