About this deal

That they egg him on, tormenting him about whether or not he has the balls to go through with his suicide plan, is horrible. Desde luego, sería despreciable que los nuevos amigos de Butter solo hubieran decidido relacionarse con él para disfrutar del morboso enigma de no saber si acabará suicidándose. It is not about binging and weight gain as a fetish and it's not gonna get anybody off and you aren't going to be uncomfortably wondering if you're gonna go to hell or not. The whole premise of this book is so dark and disturbing that it's difficult to explain how normal it seems while reading, and how caught up you get in Butter's predicament. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending - a little too happy for my taste - but in a way, I get it, because a darker, more pessimistic ending would have been really hard to take.

The series is packed with beautiful illustrations and photographs, and comprises ‘narrative’, ‘families’ and ‘non-fiction’ strands. Our bodies depend on fat-soluble vitamins, cholesterol, and fatty acids to run all kinds of internal systems optimally, especially in the brain; among children, this fat function is even more essential. Butter: A Rich History includes science, social and culinary history, far flung travel adventures, farm and factory tours, recipes(! and now I wonder if all the other staples in my kitchen have as intriguing an origin as that not-at-all simple block of butter on my counter.Having no idea what it must be like to be obese, I personally loved this perspective of how someone so overweight must feel: embarrassed, pessimistic and lonely, in 'Butter's' case. After all the backlash the original blurb (not the book itself, because everyone decided to get asshurt before the damn thing was even released so they could read it) for Holding Up the Universe, I was more than a little scurrrrred to share all of my thoughts about this book. Reaching out to friends and loved ones was helpful for me, but it turns out I needed more help; I’m seeing both a therapist and a psychiatrist now. I also did not like the organisation of the book and felt the writing was, in places, in need of a high school English teacher!

This could be a cry for help or simply an attention-seeking ploy (and it works…he does get lots and lots of attention). There’s nothing wrong with books that deal with that, of course, but it is nice to see something different. In the real world, the "big three" of diabetic symptoms - which is pretty common knowledge - is sweating, thirst, and confusion.Rika hopes this gastronomic exchange will help her soften Kajii but it seems that she might be the one changing. It's hard to not get excited about buttery: creamy, slightly salty, smooth and good with anything, butter is the magic fairy of the pantry, the wizard in our recipe books. There are so many ways this book could have preached about obesity or about bullying, but it doesn't - it just tells a story. So my attitude meant that Butter and I didn't connect right away - in the beginning, I'll admit I was a little grossed out by how much he eats and by how he insists that it's not his fault.

In fact, I'm going to have to change my rating from 3 stars to 1, because there's no excuse for the lack of knowledge. As for Butter’s actually suicide attempt and it’s aftermath…the book felt like it lost steam at that point. We learn about the varied nutritional properties of butter, and its vitamin profile may surprise some readers. As with all things, dealing with suicidal thoughts and ideation is a journey; no straight lines to recovery here.

I can honestly tell you that despite what Biggest Loser tells you, that is unhealthy, and coupled with the little exercise he's doing, that's impossible.
