For what it’s worth, I started on WaniKani before getting みんなの日本語 and the basic kanji and vocabulary familiarity has been an asset. Unauthorized reproduction, sharing, transfer, reprinting, and resale of any products are prohibited.The audio material of the GENKI CDs (previously sold separately from the textbooks) is re-edited and re-recorded in MP3 format on CDs that will be bundled with the revised textbooks.
The exercises provided here are for use with Genki: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese textbooks (Third Edition) and are meant to help you practice what you have learned in each lesson. In the revised edition, negative forms of adjectives and noun phrases that are more common in everyday life have also been updated.At least for me the books were quite expensive, so in my case it wouldn’t be worth it to expend even more, as from what I’ve read the 2nd edition is still great!

Of course, being more familiar with grammar before you even start WaniKani would help you a lot if you want to read the example sentences for each item of vocabulary, so there’s no perfect timeline. The number of communicative practice materials such as dialogues has been increased to give students more grammar practice and the readings in the Reading and Writing section have also been updated to make them more relevant to modern Japan. The big advantages are more shorter and to the point descriptions, and better examples, but the contents of the book are nearly identical.
