The psychotic episodes that often gripped Fred and Rose West were not just symptomatic of their own dysfunctional childhoods (Fred was a paedophile who got his own sister pregnant and Rose was sleeping with her father from her teens upwards) but symptomatic of their own broken minds. Surprisingly short on content, the book is a quick read; there is so much more that can be told about the characters of the deranged pair and life growing up in the West household.

Fred and Rose West truly felt that they could do whatever they wanted in their home, away from prying eyes. However, it was Fred West’s obsession with sex that would be the real catalyst for the hell that was forming within the walls of 25 Cromwell St. However having read books which were obviously published after I had some knowledge of the goings on already, what was nice to hear was Stephens view point in his own words. One needs only to see the brother and sister's faces to know this was their experience inside that house. I also enjoy some contemporary fiction, literary fiction and romance with a smattering of non-fiction.

Perhaps I’m being overly cynical here, but it’s an easy assumption to make, and possibly holds a certain amount of truth to it. They are both vile excuses for human beings, and anyone trying to justify what they did will not get a lot of sympathy in my book.It is told verbatim from interviews with Stephen and Mae West, children of the serial killer parents.
