About this deal

A lot of people felt that the resin finish of the F 91W feels cheap. However, they didn’t want to see a change in the movement or functionality. However, some of you are still new to the watch-lover community and want to know what makes a watch better than others. For a digital watch, you should put high priority in these factors – While this watch prioritises function over form, I think the F-91W is an absolute essential to own. Whether as a first watch, or just as a cheap daily beater; there’s many reasons why this watch has legendary status. This is certainly no statement piece, but is it the best Casio Watch to buy? Overall, it’s truly a pleasure to wear for work and everyday tasks. Personally, I prefer the metallic Casio A158W variant, as I find it looks more stylish with my outfits and looks less like a ‘dad watch’. However, the F-91W is cheaper and does have a more comfortable strap; so, will certainly be of preference to many. My father, for instance, who works as a plumber adores the practicality of the Casio F-91W, which has adorned his wrist for over 20 years. There’s a 7-year battery life stated, but reports suggest it’s more like 10. It’s powered by another classic: the CR2016 battery. Easy to source. The right button, labeled "Alarm On-Off/24hr", is the function button: when used, it starts and stops the stopwatch, changes the settings currently being adjusted, or switches between the 12- and 24-hour modes, depending on what mode the watch is currently in. Pressing all three buttons at the same time will fill all the cells on the LCD until any button is pressed again. [10]

On day one, the Casio F-91W’s velvet matte finish suffered a light scratch. That’s plastic for you, and matte can’t be buffed out. The acrylic crystal has escaped damage so far, but I suspect the watch autopsy reports on this model would reveal the top failure modes to be: Casio uses a digital quartz movement that is known as both Module 593 or Casio 593. It’s a chronograph movement that is only seen in Casio F 91W these days. The chronograph can display 1/100-second digital stopwatch for up to one hour. The range of jewellery conventionally accepted for men was very limited. Cuff links perhaps or a wedding band -- and of course a timepiece, which was frequently a status symbol. The Collection F-91W is a quartz-driven wristwatch featuring a digital display. Though sometimes regarded with contempt by purists, quartz watches are extremely precise, to around 15 seconds per month. This far exceeds even the most luxurious mechanical models. Practical Companion Combatant status review board for Mohammed Ahmad Said el Edah". The New York Times. October 6, 2004.Just like the case, the strap is also made of soft resin. You might think that it’s a poor choice but U would say that it’s perfect! I’ve taken the watch in swimming pools multiple times, it works perfectly. I’ve talked to a lot of people, none of them found any issue! The US government became suspicious of Afghans who wore Casio watches due to their ability to be used as timers for improvised explosive devices, a tactic favored by al-Qaeda. [11] [12]

Please ensure that you complete all of the sections, as this will guarantee the timely processing of your return/exchange. Finally, you’ll get 30-meter water resistance which seem like a poor number. Most of the watches with 30m water-resistance rating may suffer if you take it to scuba diving. But we’re talking about the reliability champ here.

Retrieved October 4, 2023. On the front is a shatter-resistant acrylic “window lens” – aka the crystal. Whilst it may be shatter resistant, it’s not scratch resistant – as mine has a bit of a battle scar by the bottom right pusher. The lens provides exceptional clarity to the LCD screen, which is perfectly visible from every angle, even in direct sunlight. First of all, the 1/100-second stopwatch is extremely accurate. Plus, there’s a lap timer option that comes very handy. The case is made of resin, with an angular approach to a rectangular shape; almost cushion like. The pushers are easy to use and are small steel cylinders. Mattia] decided that a spare key card might be good to have around, and that building it into his Casio F-91W watch would put the key as close at hand as it could be without getting an implant.

When the seconds changed before my eyes I realized that my fears of digital legibility were unfounded. Less reassuring: the battery’s death march had begun. The lower left button, labelled "Mode", cycles the modes of the watch: time display, alarm, stopwatch, and time/date adjustment. Are we seeing more wristwatch PCB swapping projects because more people are working on them, or because we saw one and they’re on our mind? The world may never know, but when it comes to design constraints, there’s a pretty fun challenge here both in fitting your electronic wizardry inside the confines of an injection molded case, and in the power budget to make your creation run on a sippy straw of battery power. A couple of other funky things to be aware of (believe it or not there are fakes of this watch out there): 1. press all the buttons together to display all the digits and 2. hold the bottom right button for 5 seconds for it to read “Casio”.

The Casio F 91W was an instant hit. Now, everyone could afford a reliable watch. There’s even joke that flies around the watch community – “A Casio F91W will outlive you!” Everything started in 1984 when Casio launched the DW-240. During the early ‘80s, digital watches just started entering the market and the low cost DW-240 won the hearts of common people almost instantly. A strong acrylic window protects the dial. On paper, acrylic seems like a poor choice. But in real life, acrylic does a fine job and has great scratch resistance features.

Uses the same 593 module, but the case's design is more similar to the older F-28W and F-87W. It has lugs instead of an embedded strap. More than a dozen detainees were cited for owning cheap digital watches, particularly "the infamous Casio watch of the type used by Al Qaeda members for bomb detonators." In the name of science, I wore the Casio F-91W in the shower. As expected, it didn’t mind at all. Supposedly Water Resistant is roughly equivalent to a 30m rating, so not really recommended. People do it all the time though, and the abuse is endured long enough to convince them that this is okay – until it dies a couple of months later.

The upper left button, labeled "Light", turns on the light, cancels the alarm, resets the stopwatch or marks the split (lap) time, and is used for selecting settings. The Casio F-91W is a digital watch manufactured by Japanese electronics company Casio. Introduced in June 1989 [1] as a successor of the F-87W, [2] it is popular for its low price and long battery life. [3] As of 2011, annual production of the watch is 3million units, which makes it the most sold watch in the world. [4] Specifications [ edit ] Design [ edit ] The F-91W is not very user-friendly. Nobody has ever worked out how to set the time correctly on their first attempt, and deactivating the hourly alarm requires a degree in computer science. The light only illuminates one tiny corner of the display, and the straps have a habit of wearing away and then snapping. Operation [ edit ] Casio F-91W, in regular timekeeping mode and using the 24-hour display option. The watch is currently set to sound the alarm and hourly chime The Casio F-91W is probably the most popular wristwatch ever made. It’s been in production forever, it’s been worn by presidents, and according to US Army intelligence it is “the sign of al-Qaeda”. There’s a lot of history in this classic watch. That said, there is exactly one problem with this watch: it’s barely water resistant. [David] thought he had a solution to this problem, and it looks like he may have succeeded. This classic watch is now waterproof, down to 700 meters of depth. If you’re ever 700 meters underwater, you have bigger problems than a watch that isn’t waterproof.
