About this deal

The next step for us was to look at all of the products that fall within the Pillows category, of which we found 90 products at Argos. So we pulled together all of the prices of these products to analyse the average prices as well as finding the cheapest and most expensive options.

The movement isolation that this pillow provides would be average at best. If you are frequently disturbed by your partner’s movement during the night then a memory foam pillow may be a better option as these do not transfer movement as much. This would mainly be a problem with the mattress instead of the pillow, however. Trial and Guarantee As you can imagine, pricing is one of the most important factors of any purchasing decision. We can find the perfect product for our needs, that fits the brief in every single way. But if it doesn’t fit our budgets, we simply can’t (or at least shouldn’t) buy it. Cotton: The basic pillow. Cotton-filled pillows are cheap and readily available – but they’re prone to absorbing heat and over time they flatten out to nothingness. Fine for occasional use in the spare room; not good enough to be considered in our search for the best pillows out there. They seem to have dropped the astronaut talk, but they don’t really need it: Stratos works noticeably better than other summer pillows that rely on ‘cooling gels’, which we’ve never been convinced by. The fibre filling, made of recycled plastic bottles, is also remarkably soft, light and fluffy, making this a good choice for those who don’t get on with either foam or feathers – although it’s a bit too soft for those who need a lot of head-support.

The best pillows you can buy in 2023 1. Silentnight Just Like Down Microfibre Pillow: Best value pillow It’s a little bit firmer than the Otty Deluxe, but it’s not so firm that it feels clinical, instead landing somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. It comes with an inbuilt protector, plus a soft, breathable and hypoallergenic bamboo cover (which can be washed at 40°C), which helps you to keep things fresher than washing your pillowcase alone . Hybrid: A hybrid pillow combines multiple fill types, the most popular combination being foam and microfibre. This way, you get the benefit of a foam structure to support your head, and fluffy fibres for softness. Comfort and supporting your spine and the natural curvature of your spine and taking weight off the pressure points in your body is really crucial to creating a sense of weightlessness. The less pain that you’re in, the less discomfort that you’re in, the more likely you are to be able to stay still, and staying still is crucial for good sleep quality.” Silentnight is one of the largest and most well-known mattress manufacturers within the UK. With over 70 years of experience in the bed industry, Silentnight is by far one of the oldest companies still going strong. With this experience, they have continued to develop a wide range of bed products. Silentnight claim they are the UK’s most trusted bed brand. Knowing their long history of producing mattresses that suit all, it is difficult to disagree.

The next step was to try and narrow down our search even more. So we’ve already looked the prices of products in the Pillows category. Then we’ve also looked at the prices of products from Silentnight. So this step combines the two and looks specifically at the price you’d expect to pay for Silentnight branded products in the Pillows category. I also had no idea whether I was meant to put a pillowcase on the pillow or not. Photos of the pillow online show it being used without a case but the gel pads against bare skin felt a little odd. I decided to use a pillowcase in the end - but the constant cold made the pillowcase feel like it was damp (I can assure you it wasn’t though!). Do I recommend the Silentnight Wellbeing Cool Touch Pillow? For memory foam pillows, you should have to clean them less often anyway, as the material is naturally resistant to allergens and bacteria growth. But if you do spill something on one, just draw a bath, add some detergent and submerge the pillow, squeezing the water through it. Air dry or use a fan to speed up the process. Never use a heater to dry memory foam as it’s a serious fire hazard. What pillows do they use in five-star hotels? Where relevant, we also take into account other aspects including trial periods, washable covers and extra features – such as adjustable and ergonomic designs – all of which can play a part in our recommendations.

UK based Aeyla has developed quite a clever concept here: a pillow within a pillow. The main reason is that the plumpness actually lasts. The filling is a vegan down-alternative made from microfibre. It’s encased in a cooling cotton cover. Sumptuously soft as they are, down-filled pillows can present a problem for allergy sufferers. Scoom created this pillow with that in mind. It is made from a core of Hungarian goose feather sandwiched between chambers of goose down, but it is finished with a special sateen cotton cover that’s tightly woven and down and dust mite-proof to make it hypoallergenic. It is certified by the Nomite anti-allergen standard; you won’t get any pesky feathers poking out of this one. If the brand you buy is important to you, our best advice is to spend some time writing up your own list of ideal brands. That way when you come to the point where you’re comparing product options you can filter to only show the products from brands in your list.

The Tempur Ombracio is specially designed and shaped for front sleepers, with a star-like shape and the distinctive dimpled texture of all Tempur products. After wondering how on earth to find a pillowcase to fit it - really not necessary - I settled down to test it out and… eight hours later, I woke up. Even if you did put time and effort into getting the right pillow the last time around, chances are it needs replacing. Even the best pillows don’t tend to last more than a few years, eventually failing to provide the level of support they used to – and that’s before you even think about the hygiene factor. You probably won’t want to hear this, but within two years of use, a third of a pillow’s weight is made up of dead skin, dirt, oil, dust mites and their droppings. Similar to the Woolroom pillow above, I actually found it too high on arrival. You can remove filling from the Hypnia too, but it’s not quite as easy to separate the whisps of hollowfibre as it is to remove the wool from the Woolroom or the nanocubes from the Simba Hybrid. Synthetic pillows are usually made from polyester. As they’re hypoallergenic, they’re great for allergy sufferers and also affordable, lightweight and easy to care for. They’re good if you sleep in a variety of positions throughout the night too. But they aren’t as malleable or breathable as other pillows and they have the shortest lifespan of all pillows – with the filling often prone to clumping. Despite being made from foam, we also found that the A Whole Night’s Sleep Pillow did a great job of stopping us from getting hot and clammy. This can likely be attributed to its plush Tencel cover, which is filled with technofibre microfibre to offer a down-like feeling.
