David Needham is secretary of the Whit Friday Brass Band Contest Committee who will stage its annual Whit Friday contest at the field. Joan, who attended with her husband Paul, received a Yorkshire emblem scarf from Michael Hall of Saddleworth White Rose Society instead of the usual society tie given to male holders of the title.

Because Oldham Council has granted a 12-month licence to Saddleworth Parish Council for the two-acre Dawson's Field, Scouthead. As new Mayor, Joan’s duties will include leading the first band in the Whit Friday contests onto Dawson’s Field, presenting prizes at the contest presentation evening, and formally opening Scouthead and Austerlands Community Group’s Family Fun Day. Here, at Pots and Pans on hills above Saddleworth, they gathered to share memories of, family, loved ones and friends who were never return to share these stunningly dramatic vistas. Because Dawson's Field at Scouthead has been asset transferred from Oldham Council to Saddleworth Parish Council meaning the facility can be used by villagers for 30 years.

The awards invite entries from across the borough whether it be a small or big garden, community garden, window box, containers or balcony. Led by Canon Sharon Jones and Mr Graham McGuffie, the village gathered with Dobcross Youth Band where a prayer of dedication was read at the newly installed Silent Soldier memorial. And two local pubs were blooming brilliant as they were honoured with Best Business merit awards – The Old Original at Scouthead and The Old Bell Inn at Delph. Under the couple’s stewardship, The Three Crowns became the hub of the community and raised many thousands of pounds for local and national charities and good causes.
