About this deal

I tested each pair if secateurs in my garden, rating them on the quality of the blade, how easy they were to use and how comfortable the handle is to hold. Read on to see how they compared. If you’re interested in more gardening equipment, we also have guides to the best lawnmowers and best leaf blowers. The difference being on bypass secateurs is the cutting blade passes the anvil to make the cut, a bit like similar to ordinary scissors, blades passing each other. Most of our sharp tools are made from carbon steel - this means they may, through regular use, stain (and eventually rust) and gradually lose their edge. Caring for them involves three things… 1. Correct Use: Sharpen with a whetstone. Leave the whetstone in water for about five minutes until soaked through, then gently rub a blade against it to sharpen. What do I do if the blades of my secateurs jam and the stems get caught between them?

The non slip, red coated handles make these garden secateurs easy to find in sunny conditions (if your forgetful like me). They are comfortable in the hand and feel well balanced. Felco secateurs are regarded as the ‘finest in the world’. They really are the cream of the crop when it comes to secateurs. They may look like cheaper pruners, but that is because many cheap brands have copied the design but none have come close to the quality. This is something to consider especially if looking at cheap secateurs. In my experience, one lost spring or a malfunctioning safety catch and the secateurs is for the bin.

Blade: High-quality, sharp blades will create more precise results. Blades are normally made of steel, some stronger and more robust than others.

Shopping for pruners can get overwhelming, but really all you need are clippers that cut cleanly without hurting your hands. Search for best secateurs any where on the web and these are probably 3 names that will come up, Okatsune is one of them.Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges) With the Felco model 6, you get the same great quality, excellent cutting performance and of course, they also come with a lifetime guarantee. Anything between 20mm for small hands and 30mm for larger hands is ideal. Anything larger than this then the use of loppers is advised instead of secateurs. If there is one way to damage pruners, and your hands, is by cutting far larger branches than the tool is are intended for.
