About this deal

Versatility: 4 out of 5 – This scent is very versatile; in my opinion it works well for either day or night, autumn, multiple occasions, for males around 25-50.

The base is all about Bubinga wood, a sort of sweet rosewood, then cashmeran, and vetiver, which is there but subtle, sandalwood, and patchouli, the latter which is the most massive note in the base. The ending is a light synthetic and grassy patchouli with residual sweetness.I really had to grow up to this perfume, but I'm glad I did, giving it one more chance all over again. In the beginning I really hated it, thinking it was: cloying, generic floral, bitter, annoying, boring, etc. But I heard a voice saying: don't dismiss it! :))

From analysis of the notes I like over the last few months I understand now why I like jasmine, sandalwood, tonkabean, peony scents... they all remind me of Contradiction but I never realized that until today :) Calvin Klein produces eloquence and confidence in a bottle. Since so many of their fragrances are so likable, it might be intimidating to find on that is perfect for you.just for reference, i had a friend over, i sprayed him with this, with the same results, gone within the hour, completely... Contradiction is like Frank Sintatra - it does it its way (and it does much). Only it doesn't have a voice like he had - it is quite silent and without projection, and this is the big problem that keeps it from becoming a classic and might make it discontinued (I'm affraid it already happened - what a pity. I will get myself a nice 100 ml, while still possible) sadly, i cannot see any positive sides to this frag, other than it being cheap, but to be honest, the world is full of cheap stuff you don't need... My most exciting, wonderful discovery of 2021 so far: this fragrance is still made and sold (online, anyway, in the UK). I've recently started adding tea-tree oil to my shampoo and conditioner and shower gel (in an effort to keep my Type 2 Rosacea in abeyance) and I'm finding that Contradiction does a fabulous job of 'masking' that rather clinical tea-tree smell that gets left on my skin.... it's as if the eucalyptus note in the Contradiction sorta swallows up the tea-tree smell and makes it part of the whole, in a very pleasing way, so that I end up smelling of Contradiction and not of tea-tree oil. I've tried other perfumes with the tea-tree residue, and I've been left with the two things both present on my skin and 'fighting' each other. The result is far more harmonious with the Contradiction than with other perfumes.

Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 – Mediocre – It’s not bad, but not inspiring either. It is receiving a bad score due to a combination of quality, originality, projection and compliment frequency. This can easily be worn by people without discriminating tastes, but fragrance collectors will likely avoid it. I'm on the fence with Contradiction, while I like certain aspects of it, particularly the floral powderiness, the woodsy notes just don't work for me, neither does the lasting power which is relatively poor. To passers-by, Contradiction appears generic and overly simplified. Some who catch a glimpse of its complexity are confused by it. It takes a lot of work to convey that simplicity and perceived minimalism. There are so many things going on behind the scenes with Contradiction, and it takes patience and willingness to travel along with the scent throughout the day to gain a true appreciation of it. At first glance (or sniff) Contradiction appears to be just delicate, tidy and pretty. A pretty Girl Next Door in my opinion. When I put this on, I envision all those nice things pretty, good girls might wear: small pastel-coloured sweaters, starched shirts, ditsy hair accessories, knee length pencil skirts... and I am thinking "I should wear those, as I have always liked it", but somehow it seldom happens.

I gave up on it about 15 years ago when it disappeared from the shops, and I did so with a very heavy heart because it had been my all-time favourite fragrance, and, for the years that I wore it (1998 onwards), it was the fragrance I wore every single day, to the exclusion of all others. Oh, how I loved it. It went down pretty well with the men I knew, too. And there is a reason it's a classic. I feel sorry for the youth today, saturated with so much choice, everyone trying to be original and precisely because of that all are the same. Indistinction of difference. Niche as a must, which is just nonsense, not to mention that it unnecessarily raises the prices of the perfumes and creates yet again niche-to-be-different, and yet everybody either is a niche or strives towards it. Not that I do not like some niche creations, but it is just so infinitely borning, the whole concept. He is one of the most influential people in the fashion design industry up to now. He also changed the way advertising was conducted when he asked Richard Avedon to photograph a very young Brooke Shields for his 1979 jeans campaign. This ad ran with the now famous slogan, You know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.
