About this deal

Unusually, there are pockets on either side so you can both carry a different drink, or a flask and a bottle, though these aren’t insulated. There’s another side compartment holding four tumblers which come individually wrapped in plastic (as are the knives and forks).

It’s light and easy to carry with a double shoulder strap, though this would have benefited from extra padding for comfort. The sides each have three glasses, one set of cutlery (we were pleased to see full-sized spoons), with a waiter’s friend on one side and salt and pepper shakers on the other. The holdall comes with a list of what can go into the dishwasher (cutlery and cutting board, though hand-washing is advised). At the same time however, this does make the bag quite long so it isn’t ideal if you are particularly short. We’d have liked to have seen at least one extra secured pocket for valuables as this is a big bag, so we wouldn’t want to bring anything extra for things like keys, a phone or wallet.

This brilliant set contains 4 X stainless steel knives, 4 X forks, 4 X spoons, 4 X BPA-free dinner plates, 4 X plastic wine glasses and 4 X washable cotton napkins, salt and pepper shakers, a large plastic chopping board, a corkscrew with bottle opener and a large fleece picnic blanket. Like some of the other backpacks we’ve tested, the cutlery included isn’t the highest quality, but it’ll certainly do for a picnic. We were a little frustrated to find each cup had been individually wrapped in plastic bubble wrap; a more eco-friendly alternative would have been preferable. it comes complete with stainless steel cutlery, plates and glasses for 4 people as well as a wine opener. The picnicware is slightly heavier than some of the others but as the rucksack is only designed for two people, it isn’t a problem to carry it even when it’s full and the weight is well distributed. However, it is not always fun having to lug around bags full of food and associated cutlery, as well as everything else you need to take out with you for a day – enter the picnic backpack! Designed as a picnic backpack for 4 people, it comes complete with c utlery, plates, napkins, wine glasses, bottle opener, chopping cheeseboard AND a large waterproof picnic rug which handly attaches to the side. Plates and cutlery for four people are also included – we loved the light blue ombré design on the plates and thought they were a welcome alternative to white. It isn’t too heavy (which is impressive considering how many it caters for) and everything inside is well-secured, as are the compartments themselves, which close with twin zips. We were disappointed that the cruet and goblets came in bubble wrap – we would have preferred more sustainable packaging.

A soft, striped picnic blanket is also provided and there are straps to secure it to the side of the bag. There’s a useful extra internal pocket and two elasticated loops to keep drinks securely inside, but this does take up space. The capacity of the cool bag/storage space was tested by using a variety of different-sized filled Tupperware – we’ve noted what we could fit in each bag above. While this may not come with plates and cutlery like many below, I still love this particular bag for the very practical, well thought design as well as being stylish. Usefully, the blanket also has a waterproof backing and it's large enough for two to sit on it comfortably, or even lie down post-picnic.The downside to this bag is that it is not insulated, meaning it will not assist in keeping food chilled or warm (however, you can add in ice packs). The Tourit insulted cooler backpack can hold up to 32 cans of drinks with the ability to keep them cool (or hot) for an incredible 16 hours. Due to its capability of holding many cans, it has been designed with adjustable, padded shoulder straps and thickly padded sections for maximum comfort when carrying. Picnic rucksacks look just like normal rucksacks, but they come with extra features such as compartments for cutlery, melamine plates and napkins, as well as larger cool-bag style compartments. We questioned whether there were enough pockets provided and what measures were in place to secure them.
